Buildings have a certain lifespan, while the 70% of Greece’s building stock is aged and built before 1985, without applying modern seismic regulations. Additionally, even in newer constructions, insufficient maintenance, potential defects, poor practices, and aggressive environmental conditions can cause damage and failures. Depending on the pathology of the damage, appropriate repair and strenghtening techniques are applied to ensure long-term durability, safety, and ultimately the building’s structural integrity.
Furthermore, if a building undergoes a change of use, expansion, or conversion, repair and structural strengthening might be required.
